Department of Labor

Dear Green American,

Would you like the money you invest through your 401(k) or pension to be used to create a greener and more just world?

If the Department of Labor (DOL) gets its way, using these investments to urge corporations to act on labor, climate and many other corporate responsibility issues will be nearly impossible.

Sign the petition so we can continue to hold corporations accountable for their impacts on people and the planet.

Currently, 401(k) fund managers can vote to support shareholder resolutions that call on companies to be more responsible.  Voting this way curbs the worst corporate excesses and may even make companies more profitable in the long run. Shareholder resolutions address crucial issues such as worker rights, human health, the climate crisis, pollution, and corporate political activity.

But corporations don’t like these corporate responsibility shareholder resolutions, which have been gaining higher vote counts.

DOL is taking action to protect the worst corporate polluters and human rights offenders. It clearly wants to create a hostile environment for shareholder voting and to have any votes cast simply side with management.

There is a brief public comment period for this proposed rule.

Sign our petition by October 3, 2020 to make your voice heard for corporate accountability.

For a green economy,

Fran
