Hi John,

It’s never been more clear: Donald Trump deliberately misled the American people into a false sense of safety during COVID-19. I understand if you don’t want to read this message, as the topic can be a great source of anxiety for many right now. Just know, I won’t stop fighting for you and your loved ones.

For weeks now, I’ve been thinking about details that were released around Donald Trump’s interview with Bob Woodward. In early February, Donald Trump said this about the pandemic:
- “This is deadly stuff.”
- “You just breathe the air and that’s how it’s passed.”
- “That’s a very tricky one. That’s a very delicate one. It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flu.”

Then in March, Trump admitted, “I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down because I don’t want to create a panic.”

Let me be very clear. There is a difference between wanting to prevent widespread panic and withholding information regarding the gravity of a virus that has now taken the lives of over 200,000 Americans. But instead, the president intentionally misled the people, refused to wear a mask for months, and claimed that the virus would just “go away.”

I am furious about the handling of this outbreak. While my colleagues and I have fought for relief for workers and families, rushed to work with the National Guard to set up medical sites in our district, and remained available to constituents during these uncertain times, the president has politicized the pandemic and stood in the way of science -- and truth -- every step of the way.

This November, we need to send this administration packing and elect a leader who can guide us out of this crisis and move our nation forward.

Today, I am reaffirming my commitment to you and every constituent I serve in Pennsylvania’s Fifth District: I will not let up on this fight to win back the White House and fight for policies that will improve the lives of people throughout the country.

We have so much work ahead of us -- and I thank you for trusting me to advocate for you and your needs in Washington.

I won’t give up.

More soon,
Mary Gay
