President Trump has overturned protections for the Tongass National Forest, but legislation in Congress could still prevent logging of this ancient wilderness. Call on the U.S. Senate to pass the Roadless Area Conservation Act. Take Action:

Dear Anonymous,

The Trump administration has removed federal protections for the Tongass National Forest, paving the way for new logging in the wildest parts of our nation's largest forest.

At Environment Colorado, we believe that our natural places should stay wild. It would be a tragedy to lose an 800-year-old forest and the rare and vulnerable wildlife that call it home.

We're urging Congress to enact the Roadless Area Conservation Act, which would permanently protect 58.5 million acres of wilderness, including the Tongass, from logging and roads.[1] Will you join us, Anonymous?

Send a message to Sens. Cory Gardner and Michael F. Bennet in support of the Roadless Area Conservation Act today.

The Tongass National Forest, an ancient wilderness the size of West Virginia, is our world's largest remaining intact temperate rainforest. It's full of towering old-growth trees, some twice as old as America itself.[2] The world's largest population of black bears and the largest concentration of nesting bald eagles make the remote coastline their home.[3][,4]

Anonymous, it's not too late to prevent the destruction of this special place. Legislation currently in Congress could prevent the Trump administration and any future administration from opening the Tongass to logging and road construction.

In order to see the Roadless Area Conservation Act passed, we'll need your help demonstrating broad support for the protection and preservation of undeveloped forest. We've done this before. In 2001, our national network submitted 700,000 public comments which helped convince the U.S. Forest Service to conserve wild areas in the Tongass and other national forests. Now, it's time to organize again.

Call on the U.S. Senate to pass the Roadless Area Conservation Act and ensure the protection of the Tongass National Forest for generations to come.
