Brandt —
Our democracy is based on a simple concept: Voters should have a fair chance to elect candidates of their choice. Unfortunately, there is no clearer example of how that promise has been methodically and intentionally undermined than in North Carolina.
For nearly a decade, North Carolinians have been forced to vote in districts that have been manipulated by Republicans in the legislature to guarantee a partisan outcome. After locking in unfair majorities, Republicans used their power to further suppress the vote with discriminatory voter ID laws, changing and closing polling places, and putting in place all kinds of barriers that make it harder for people, especially people of color, to have their voices heard at the ballot box.
After the last decade of politicians tirelessly working to disenfranchise anyone who disagrees with them, North Carolinians deserve leaders who protect and expand your right to vote.
That’s why I’m supporting Cal Cunningham in his campaign to be North Carolina’s next U.S. Senator. I hope you’ll pitch in to make sure he’s got the resources he needs to win.
Cal has a proven record of fighting corruption. In the U.S. Army Reserve, he served three active duty tours, including overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan, where he earned a Bronze Star and the MacArthur Leadership Award, in part for his work taking on corrupt contractors. I’m confident he will stand up to special interests in Washington and fight for what’s right.
North Carolinians deserve a leader who will fight to end gerrymandering, protect the right to vote, and enhance our democracy. When they elect Cal, that’s exactly what they’ll get.
If you can, consider chipping in whatever you can afford to help Cal win this race. It’s going to be close — and we know the other side will do whatever they can to keep this seat red — but working together, I’m confident we can win.
Sincerely,
Eric
