Friend,

President Trump just announced the nomination of Judge Coney Barrett to fill late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court.

While we join the nation in mourning the loss of the Notorious RBG, we are fighting against Mitch McConnell’s rush to fill her seat. Four years ago, during the Obama administration, he refused to allow a vote on a Supreme Court nominee because it was an election year — and it was nowhere near as close to Election Day as we are now.

Demand the Senate not confirm Judge Coney Barrett — or any Supreme Court nominee — until after Inauguration Day.

The courts are one avenue we use in our fight to protect your rights to connect and communicate. And the Supreme Court regularly decides cases that impact freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right to assemble without unwarranted surveillance and what agencies like the FCC can do on broadband, Net Neutrality, media diversity and so much more.

Put simply: Yet another ultra-right-wing justice on the highest court in the land puts so much of what we fight for every day at risk. That’s why we’ve joined hundreds of other organizations in demanding that the Senate refrain from rushing through Trump’s nominee while people across the country have already started voting.

It’s going to take all of us to stop noted hypocrite Mitch McConnell from ignoring the standard he himself set when President Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland in March 2016.

Tell the Senate to wait until after Inauguration Day to confirm a new Supreme Court justice.

P.S. As has always been the case, our voices are more powerful together. Join us in demanding that Justice Ginsburg’s seat remain open until after Inauguration Day.
