- Senator Dan Sullivan, 3/16/16 John, President Trump just announced that his nominee for the Supreme Court will be Judge Amy Coney Barrett. Barrett is a far-right conservative who not only wants to overturn Roe v. Wade and the Affordable Care Act but even thinks Brown v. Board of Education, the ruling that desegregated schools, was wrongly decided. However, Dan Sullivan said it best in 2016: It "isn't about the individual [nominee], it's about the principle." And his own principle says that Supreme Court nominees, no matter their views, should not be confirmed this close to an election. He said that in 2016, months before an election -- and this time, we're just weeks away. Sullivan now wants to proceed with confirmation hearings anyway. That's because it's not about principles. It's about partisan power. We can't allow Dan Sullivan to continue to be a yes-man for Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell, no matter the consequences for our nation and democracy. They've gone months without addressing the very real public health and economic consequences of COVID-19 as hundreds of thousands died. But now that they can ensure their party's power for a generation or more, it's all hands on deck. The integrity of the Supreme Court is sacred to our democracy. We cannot stand by as Dan Sullivan aids and abets Mitch McConnell as he turns it into another partisan power grab. Alaskans -- and all Americans across the country -- deserve their voices to be heard. Thank you, Dr. Al Gross
