WASHINGTON, DC, September 26, 2020 – President Trump has announced Amy Coney Barrett as his nominee to take Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court. Barrett has a disturbing record — especially on health care, reproductive rights, and racial justice — that makes her unfit to serve on the Supreme Court. Barrett clearly meets Trump’s litmus tests for judges who would overturn the Affordable Care Act and Roe v. Wade. Barrett has argued that courts should invalidate the ACA and criticized Chief Justice John Roberts for his decision to uphold Congress’s authority to enact large portions of the ACA. Since being nominated to the Seventh Circuit, she has sided with rulings allowing for racial segregation and age discrimination in the workplace. Barrett also repeatedly sided with the wealthy and the powerful over workers and consumers. On gun safety, immigration, criminal justice, the environment, and more, she has attacked critical rights and protections.
