Jack,
Ruth Bader Ginsburg left a mark on this country as a feminist and Civil Rights activist. Her dissenting opinions time and time again guided us toward a more just future.
One of RBG's most notable dissenting opinions came when she lost the battle to save voting rights through the Voting Rights Act.
After her passing, we are responsible for upholding the democratic values of this country as she once did. We must take up her fight for justice and fairness, and we must carry on her great legacy.
RBG's dying wish was that her seat not be filled until after a new president is sworn in. The president is the person who nominates justices to the Supreme Court of the United States. With little more than 40 days until a pivotal presidential election, it is only fair to wait and see who the American people elect as president instead of ramming through a politically motivated nomination now.
But today, Donald Trump went ahead and made his nomination for Supreme Court Justice — with no regard for the late Justice Ginsburg, and despite his party's displeasure with President Obama appointing a nominee too close to an election.
Our system is supposed to reflect the will of the people, but Mitch McConnell and the GOP Senate are taking yet another opportunity to make it about partisan politics.
The GOP Senate is eager to infringe on our voting rights, and it's likely that Trump's new appointee will favor the national Republican popular opinion. And she could now be the vote needed to dismantle what's left of the Voting Rights Act.
We cannot let the GOP use the Supreme Court for their partisan agenda. We must wait until after the election to appoint a new Supreme Court Justice. Not only because it was RBG's dying wish, but because it's the right thing to do for the American people.
SIGN NOW to demand that Mitch McConnell and his GOP Senators wait until after the election to appoint a new Supreme Court Justice >>
