Ugh. Donald Trump did not waste any time tarnishing Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s legacy.

Rather than waiting until the next president is installed to ensure that the next Supreme Court Justice selection reflects the will of the American people, he just announced his nominee to fill RBG's seat.

Along with the rest of the country, I have mourned RBG’s death. She was a champion of women’s rights, securing women equal protections in law since the start of her legal career. She ended that career as a feminist icon, on the Supreme Court her dissenting opinions led the path toward our country’s future.

The president nominates their pick for Supreme Court Justice, and then Congress votes. But this close to such a pivotal election, it's only fair to wait until the American people have voted and determined their next president.

This is why Ruth Bader Ginsburg's last wish was that her seat not be filled until after a new president is installed.

The Senate must wait to fill Justice Ginsburg's vacant seat until a new president is sworn in -- not just to honor her final request, but to allow the American people a true voice in the selection of a new Supreme Court Justice.
