John,

One year ago today, as he was relaxing in his own home, Dallas Police
Officer Amber Guyger walked right into the home of Botham Jean, and shot
and killed him. Botham broke no laws, committed no crime, was unarmed, and
was non-violent.

We are still fighting for justice. Jury selection begins today, and the
trial begins on September 23rd.

[ [link removed] ]Please follow my friend and brilliant civil rights lawyer, S. Lee
Merritt, Esq. on Twitter at @MeritLaw for updates on Botham Jean’s case.

I’m thinking today of Botham’s dear mother, Allie Jean, and of my friends
at the Botham Jean Foundation. They’re asking everyone today to:

* Post or share a photo of Botham whether you knew him personally or
not. The world deserves to remember his smiling face. (There are some
photos [ [link removed] ]here.)
* Wear red, as it was his favorite color, and the world deserves to see
the color that brought him joy.
* Do a good deed for a neighbor as Botham would have wanted us all to
do.
* And before you lay your head down at the end of September 6th, say a
prayer for the family. Lift them up in prayer as Botham has done for
so many during his short time on this earth.

I hope you will take some of these action steps as we cope with the
community trauma of police brutality and as we remember why we are working
so hard to elect good district attorneys who will protect people from
abuses of power by the police.

Let’s keep pushing on for good.

Love y’all,

Shaun

P.S. You can read more about my reflections on the community trauma of
police brutality [ [link removed] ]in this article. If you want to donate to help Real
Justice elect district attorneys who will both bring justice for families
like Botham’s and reform the justice system so more deaths like his do not
happen again, [ [link removed] ]please do so here.
