John -- Jason Kander here. You’re probably wondering why someone like me from Missouri is reaching out to you about a race all the way in California. I’ll tell you: It’s because there’s far too much on the line for me to take a backseat to any critical race happening anywhere in the county -- and, John, you better believe me when I say that Gil’s re-election is critical.
John, I’ve been so proud of the work that my team and I have accomplished at Let America Vote to protect the right to vote and end voter suppression. But nothing that we’ve accomplished has been won in a silo; voting rights advocates and elected officials have been crucial to our success in highlighting this important issue. As a fellow veteran and for his similar work to make democracy work for all Americans -- for his support of a universal vote-by-mail option, extended early voting, polling place adjustments, voting registration adjustments and expanded voter education -- Gil Cisneros has been a tremendous ally in the efforts to safeguard Americans’ right to vote. But there’s another reason that I’m reaching out to you, John. Gil’s campaign manager, Joe, wrote me last week to let me know that they’re facing the most critical fundraising deadline of their race thus far: They still have to raise $13,982 over the next 4 days to hit their end-of-quarter fundraising goal. John, I’ve been working politics long enough to know that your donation could make the difference in Gil’s team’s ability to reach out to one more voter, to get out the vote, and to protect the right to vote in California’s 39th. So I wanted to do my part to implore you to join me in donating to Gil’s campaign before his deadline in 4 days.
