John,
Tomorrow night is the start of Yom Kippur. It's the Day of Atonement considered to be the holiest day of the year in Judaism, and is traditionally observed with a day-long fast, prayer, and synagogue services. It's based in reflection, self-examination, and atonement.
Yom Kippur isn't exactly a "happy" holiday, but it is a reminder of the importance of looking inwards and setting intentions. It's a reminder to me, too, that right now — regardless of whether or not we choose to observe Yom Kippur — self-reflection is needed now more than ever for us to forge ahead in shaping a brighter future.
To those observing Yom Kippur over this weekend, I hope you have an easy fast.
All the best,
Jamaal Bowman
