Growing up in Slovakia, I saw how democracy and people power can transform communities for the better. I learned to knock walls down, not build them up.

I am truly honored to be on the BNC slate for 2020 and to be part of the community of progressive candidates working together to transform our country for the better.

I know that organized people outperform organized money every time, and my persistence and leadership as a Flagstaff city councillor, delivered wins like a $15.50 minimum wage, paid parental leave, a climate action plan, and an Indigenous People’s Day resolution.

As the first immigrant from Arizona elected to Congress, I will continue to put people first and fight for an immigration overhaul, universal healthcare, tuition-free college, a Green New Deal, Indigenous rights, reproductive rights, workers’ rights, and putting a stop to never-ending wars.

The U.S. House of Representatives is the People's house; the seats don't belong to anybody but the people despite what some Democratic Party elites think. Fair and diverse elections are critical and the candidates who joined me on the BNC slate are willing to run despite the odds. They are willing to challenge ingrained institutional ideas and in doing so can help bring democracy to the people.

Here in AZ-01 we are running a grassroots campaign with $0 from corporate PACs or any PACs for that matter; and that is difficult. But the alternative is to become a part of institutionalized political corruption that serves the highest bidder and not the people. That we won't do.
