At 5:00PM ET today, President Trump is expected to announce Judge Amy Coney Barrett as his nominee to fill the seat on the U.S. Supreme Court of the United States previously held by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. With just over 30 days until Election Day, and early voting already starting across multiple states, it should be left up to the American people to decide who gets to nominate the next Supreme Court justice. Contact your Senators, now, and tell them: No nomination before inauguration! The Supreme Court makes rulings that affect all of us, including our LGBTQ+ loved ones, on everything from marriage to adoption, from segregation to healthcare for transgender people, from climate change to public education. It is unacceptable and unjust to try to rush through a nomination while the election is already underway. Right now, healthcare coverage is on the line! In the middle of a pandemic, when more than 7 million people in this country have contracted COVID-19--which is now a preexisting condition--and millions of others have lost their jobs, are struggling to pay rent, and are needing to feed their families, Senate action on COVID-19 relief should and must be first. Rushing through a Supreme Court nomination when voting has already started is pure political distraction. Our health and our lives cannot afford this! Take action now, and every day, by calling your Senators and telling them: No nomination before inauguration. |
