John,
There’s not much time, so I’ll get straight to the point: our country is facing a record shortage of poll workers this year due to the coronavirus. Without enough poll workers, we could see polling places close and longer lines on Election Day.
It’s true that poll workers are democracy’s essential workers — especially this fall. Our democracy and our elections depend on people like you to make sure voting runs smoothly and everyone's vote is counted. YOU can help make sure we have safe, fair, and efficient elections for all. In fact, you could potentially get paid to do it!
If you’re able, sign up now to become a poll worker and help ensure safe and fair elections in your community. [[link removed]]
Becoming a poll worker sounds like a big responsibility, but what happens after you sign up is pretty straight forward. Depending on your jurisdiction, you will either be contacted by Power the Polls (a partner organization) or your local election administrators.
You’ll get trained to set up voting stations, help voters check-in or update their voter registration information, help elderly or disabled citizens vote, pass out “I Voted” stickers, and break down polling places at the end of the day -- all important tasks that help to ensure every voter’s voice is heard and ballot is counted.
There’s a lot at stake this fall. By signing up to be a poll worker, you can do your part by helping others to vote safely and efficiently.
