After Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith unveiled her first TV ad against our campaign on Wednesday, the Mississippi GOP launched a new website attacking Mike Espy.

As a political researcher, I’ve seen a lot of attack websites like this one over the years. The GOP will do whatever they can to hurt our Democratic candidates. They’re not afraid to publish lies, conspiracy theories, and other attacks to smear Democratic campaigns. 

That’s why I was a little confused after seeing the Mississippi GOP’s attack website against our campaign. The top of the page? A photo of Mike with Senator and future vice president, Kamala Harris. LOL.

That’s the best they’ve got??

Well, we agree on one thing: Mississippi does deserve better — better than what they’ve been getting from Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. 

Not only has Hyde-Smith failed to help Mississippians during one of the worst pandemics and economic crises in American history. She is also the candidate who’s made jokes about public hangings and voter suppression, dressed up in Confederate garb, and referred to the Civil War era as “Mississippi at its best.”

It’s pretty clear: Cindy Hyde-Smith is hurting Mississippi, but Mike wants to move this state — where he’s lived his whole life and loves dearly — forward. But now that Hyde-Smith has come out of hiding and the GOP are ramping up their attacks, we need to keep building the resources to fight back in these last 39 days before Election Day.

So I have to ask: Can we count on you to pitch in $10 (or more, or less, it all really helps) to support Mike Espy? The FEC deadline is on September 30, and we need all the help we can get before our most important fundraising deadline yet.
