Dear John,
Later today, President Trump will continue to make a mockery of our democracy by officially naming his pick to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court—even as people have already begun voting across the country.
According to news reports, Trump has likely chosen Judge Amy Coney Barrett. But even without knowing who he would pick, we knew exactly the kind of person President Trump was going to nominate: someone who, in Trump’s own words, would “automatically” overturn Roe v. Wade to control our decisions about whether and how to start a family, rescind health care for those who need it most, turn back protections for survivors of sexual harassment, and undo decades of progress for LGBTQ+ communities and people of color.
We have to stop him. It’s that simple.
In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic—a health crisis that has killed 200,000 people in the United States—Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is rushing to appoint a justice whom he and Trump believe will support repealing the Affordable Care Act and overturning Roe v. Wade.
Access to health care has never mattered more, and millions of working families are struggling, having lost their jobs, child care, and housing, as well as their loved ones. But McConnell refuses to do his job. Instead of extending much-needed COVID relief, he’s rushing to erase Justice Ginsburg’s legacy and install another extremist Supreme Court justice who will attack our fundamental rights.
But we can dissent.
Our senators must hear from us right now and know that we won’t let them move forward with Judge Barrett’s nomination. No hearings, no vote, no confirmation. Nothing. Contact your senators now.
This isn’t a fight over the next 40 days. It’s a fight over the next 40 years. Amy Coney Barrett cannot have a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court. And certainly not Justice Ginsburg’s seat, not now, not ever.
Help defend Justice Ginsburg’s legacy—tell your senators to oppose Barrett’s nomination right now.
Everything is on the line.
Thank you for fighting with us,
