Hi John,

Gun violence is tearing apart communities across the country, including my own district. Too many innocent members of our communities have been touched by this epidemic, and I’m saying enough is enough.

The work I’ve done on gun reform since coming to Congress has earned me an F rating from the NRA, and I’m proud of this rating. One of the first hearings I attended as Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee was on gun violence, and subsequently, our committee has already passed 3 landmark bills to expand background checks and close the “boyfriend loophole” in the Violence Against Women Act.

But there is so much more to be done, which is why our committee is reconvening to consider more legislative fixes to the gun violence epidemic -- including the Extreme Risk Protection Act.

With “extreme risk protection” policies in place, law enforcement will be able to remove guns from the possession of and block the sale of guns to people at risk of hurting themselves or their communities. Intervening on the front end through similar legislation has already proven to save lives in 17 states and Washington, D.C. -- so I believe it’s time that all communities across the country are protected through those same reforms.

Our country cannot wait any longer for meaningful action on gun reform -- so today, I need you to join the fight and show your support for “extreme risk protection” legislation by adding your name to our petition today. ([link removed])

Thank you for helping us advance the fight for gun reform,
Mary Gay
