As the nation mourns Justice Ginsburg, SCA honors her legacy

Dear Friend,
We suffered yet another loss this past week that has left the American people grieving, and the secular community rightfully concerned. I am of course referring to the death of United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was a champion for the Constitution, as well as an inspiration and hero to generations of women around the world.
Justice Ginsburg’s impact on the court and our justice system cannot be overstated. Often the voice of reason and logic when it came to matters regarding the separation of religion and government, her dissent in the well publicized “Hobby Lobby” and “Masterpiece Cake” decisions spoke to her strength of character, not to mention her wisdom and constitutional jurisprudence. It is my promise that the Secular Coalition for America will be ever mindful of Justice Ginsburg’s legacy as a champion for equality and justice, and that we will strive to honor that legacy through our work.
President Trump intends to nominate Justice Ginsburg’s successor by the end of the week and push the confirmation process forward. This is despite the fact that the nation finds itself squarely in the middle of an election, which has never happened before in the history of our country. To compound the issue, the Senate is planning to appease the President and move forward with the confirmation process, denying the American people a voice on the matter. The President’s “short-list” of potential replacements for Justice Ginsburg’s seat on the nation’s highest court reads like a “Who’s Who” list of rising stars in the Christian Nationalist community, which is terrifying to say the least.
In response to this egregious insult to a woman who dedicated her life to pursuing justice and upholding the principles upon which our nation was founded, the Secular Coalition for America has been working in conjunction with our member organizations, concerned allies, and members like yourself to send a very strong and clear message to the U.S. Senate. “Under no circumstance should any confirmation business be conducted until after the presidential inauguration on January 20, 2021.” Also, any attempt to do so will be remembered by the American people and reflected at the polls.
The stakes have never been higher, so I urge you to give today so we can continue fighting to protect and strengthen the wall of separation in our nation’s capital. ([link removed][UNIQID])
Sincerely,
Debbie Allen
