IMPORTANT CONGRESSIONAL UPDATE
Dear Friends,
The past few months have been difficult for Americans of all stripes, especially residents of the Rio Grande Valley. I wanted to give you an update on what we are working on to help the constituents of the 15th District of Texas during these turbulent times.
I must remind you that if you have not filled out your 2020 Census yet, please do so! The Census is a community effort meant to count everyone in the United States so the federal government can determine how much federal funding is needed for our cities and towns. Not doing so could mean the loss of millions of dollars for our schools, hospitals and libraries over the next decade. The Census is safe and secure. Be a team player and fill out your 2020 Census today!
Here are some important updates from my work in Washington on behalf of the 15th District of Texas:
CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ ANNOUNCES FEDERAL DISASTER ASSISTANCE FOR SMALL BUSINESS
The Small Business Association has issued a disaster declaration for Hurricane Hannah. Small businesses in Hidalgo, Brooks, Cameron, Kenedy, Starr and Willacy Counties may qualify for disaster assistance. More information on how to apply for SBA disaster assistance is available here. For further assistance, contact the SBA virtual center staff at [email protected] or (800) 659-2955 Mondays – Sundays 8:00 am – 8:00 pm EDT.
CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ ANNOUNCES $400,000 IN CORONAVIRUS AID FOR THE LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
A total of $400,000 was awarded to the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council through the CARES Act. This grant through the Economic Development Administration will be used to provide technical assistance to local governments for obtaining funding resources to assist with job retention and job creation. For more information on the grant, read my press release here.
CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ STATEMENT ON JUDGE’S DECISION ON U.S. CENSUS OPERATIONS
I recently released a statement about the importance of the 2020 Census after a federal judge ordered the U.S. Census Bureau to cease winding down Census operations early. The Census is a vital part of our democracy that makes sure communities get the resources they need, and attempts to undercount the Latinx population by cutting it off early are irresponsible and unconstitutional.
CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ SUPPORTS CONGRESSIONAL OVERSIGHT OF FORT HOOD
I was devastated when I heard about the story of Spc. Vanessa Guillén, and I knew something needed to be done. That is why I support Congressional oversight of Fort Hood, where this tragedy occurred. I am committed to making sure that the service men and women who protect our country are able to get answers and see action to prevent events like this from happening.
CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ RESPONDS TO EMERGENCE OF TAPES REVEALING PRESIDENT TRUMP WITHHELD CRITICAL PUBLIC HEALTH INFORMATION
I spoke out against President Trump’s incomprehensible negligence after the revelation that he knew how dangerous the coronavirus could be and still did nothing about it. His blatant misuse of power for political gain has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and massive economic damage. The United States desperately needs a commander-in-chief that is ready, willing, and able to unite this country and steer us back on course. CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ SUPPORTS THE BIPARTISAN I AM VANESSA GUILLÉN ACT
This past Wednesday, I came out in support of the I am Vanessa Guillén Act, which would reform both the process for prosecuting sexual misconduct and the oversight process. The events that happened at Fort Hood are horrific, and changes to the militaries accountability system need to be made. For more details on the I am Vanessa Guillén Act, read my press release here.

As always, it is an honor to represent you and your families during these unprecedented times. I remain at the service of all in the 15th District of Texas. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact my office.

Vicente Gonzalez Member of Congress
