Dear John,

Breonna Taylor should be alive today. The lack of accountability for her murder has shown again that our approach to policing, like much in this society, does not value Black lives. If your heart and spirit are hurting today, our AFSC community sees you and stands with you.

We are committed to working in solidarity to address the sickness of white supremacy – and all systems of oppression. We will insist that our government and leaders in all walks of life work quickly and conscientiously toward racial justice and equity. And we will not rest until our society is transformed. Read more about where we stand and what we’re calling for.

Here are this week's resources to help you stay informed and support your activism.

Assisting Oregon community members facing wildfires, pandemic, and immigration enforcement: As wildfires continue to devastate the West Coast, AFSC’s Pedro Sosa discusses how AFSC and partners are providing food, essential supplies, and other resources to farmworkers and other immigrant communities.

Tell Congress: Provide permanent protections for people with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and a roadmap to citizenship for all immigrants!: Thank you to everyone who took action last week after a court ruling cleared the way for the Trump administration to end TPS for more than 300,000 immigrants. If you haven’t already, please contact Congress today.

Providing support to communities in Guatemala during COVID-19: Thanks to your support of AFSC’s pandemic response efforts, dozens of community members have received food assistance and hygiene supplies.

Hearing the call to #FreeThemAll: Communities across the U.S. who took part in our days of action are seeing the impacts of our collective effort—from receiving letters from incarcerated people in Michigan who witnessed protests taking place outside of the prison walls to compelling public officials in New Jersey to release individuals from prison in this pandemic.

Tell Congress: Pass stimulus legislation to provide coronavirus relief today: As the U.S. passes 200,000 deaths from COVID-19, our communities, including the many immigrants excluded from the first stimulus package, urgently need extended unemployment benefits and other forms of relief.

Mural honors Anastasio Rojas, a father of five, who was killed by Border Patrol agents in San Diego: The mural—commissioned and supported by community members—will become “a place of collective healing, where it declares our truth of struggle for justice, for Rojas and all who have suffered at the hands of border agents,” writes AFSC’s Pedro Rios. (IVN San Diego)

Campaign deadline approaching: Sept. 30: Thank you to everyone who has given in response to our fiscal year-end campaign! If you haven’t yet made a gift, please consider a donation to help us organize for peace and justice, sustain pandemic relief efforts, and respond to crises and emerging needs.

Be well and take care
