Background check loophole let the Odessa shooter get a weapon. Millions of guns change hands that way. -- Time

John,

We know that loopholes in our gun laws have long been exploited by individuals looking to cause others harm. Now, we’re learning that the Odessa shooter failed a background check in 2014, and then ultimately used a loophole to buy the weapons he would later use to murder 7 people.

The answer is simple:
We need to expand background checks to ALL gun sales. Period.

The House of Representatives passed a background check bill to close the very loophole the Odessa shooter slipped through and sent it to the Senate nearly 200 days ago. And there it sits until Sens. Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn decide human lives are more important than NRA fealty. And every day they don’t take action, 100 more people die of gun violence in our country.

McConnell has already said he won’t move until Trump gives him the green light. And Sen. Cornyn from Texas has a long history with the NRA, and as Senate Majority Whip, he’s in charge of ensuring that fellow Republicans form a unified front...

John, I need your help. We’re mounting a serious campaign to push for background checks, but to run these campaigns we need your financial help. Can you chip in now and help us fight for this common-sense law?

Thanks for all you do,
Cordy
