Help PEN America continue protecting the freedom to read
Dear Friend,

PEN America was founded on the belief that words matter. Whether it’s with our celebrated literary awards program, our events with brilliant writers and thinkers, or our internationally recognized World Voices Festival, PEN America has long championed the literary community here and worldwide.

But book bans, which are alive and well in many of our schools, libraries, and communities, pose a direct threat to the right to read and freely access information.

SUPPORT FREE EXPRESSION NOW

Right now we are fighting to reinstate Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye in a high school in California where it has been banned. This year, we saw book bans in Alaska, Tennessee, and Missouri that would punish educators and librarians for safeguarding the fundamental right to read. We’ve also advocated for the right of readers to access the books by John Bolton and Mary Trump that the Trump administration has repeatedly attempted to block.

As we head into the most contentious election of our lifetime, we’re asking you to contribute any amount you are able to help us protect the freedom to write. Your support helps us continue a nearly 100-year legacy of championing writers and their allies to celebrate free expression and defend the liberties that make it possible.

Thank you,

Clarisse Rosaz Shariyf
