Fighting Ridiculous Republican Recalls: The State Party has been part of a team effort to defeat the 20 recalls promised by GOP Chair Ken Buck to applause from Cory Gardner. To help fight recalls (volunteer or donate) go to www.coloradoway.org.
Voter Registration: There are more Democrats registered to vote in Colorado than there are Republicans, and we want to keep it that way! We are targeting all 64 counties and communities across the State of Colorado. We have aggressive goals that include aggressive targets for increasing voter registration among communities of color and young voters. People to People: We are doing a statewide deep canvass to engage voters to determine what they most want to see from their candidates, elected officials and to shape the future we want. This project is quality over quantity. We are looking for good listeners, willing to engage for the health of our democracy. To become a People to People canvasser, contact Tyler McDermott at

Increasing Access: The Colorado Democrats have supported opening up caucus and primary elections to 17 year olds who will be 18 by the time of the general election, along with expanded automatic voter registration. Our caucuses will be held for the first time on a Saturday so more people can participate (after Saturday Sabbath services). Colorado legislators also changed the law so that people can vote on parole, during pre-trial detention or misdemeanor jail sentences, or on probation. (Felons still incarcerated cannot vote.) Voter Protection: The Colorado Democrats provide robust voter protection programs for every even year election. This includes training and statewide coverage to ensure every eligible voter can vote and know their vote will be counted.
Combating Vote Suppression: Vote suppression takes many forms - long lines, deliberately wrong voter information, telling people they can't vote if they owe debts or have ever been convicted of a crime, people open-carrying with weapons, sending armed law enforcement to communities with real fears of police. But the new frontier of vote suppression includes Republicans / Russians using psychological profiles of people on the left to sow discord, division. Their goal is a demoralization campaign to get Dems to think their vote doesn't matter, there is no difference between the parties or to turn on their own candidates and nominees.
Grassroots Roundtable: We hold monthly meetings with people who are active across the spectrum on various issues to figure out how we can resist, rally and make a difference.
Caucuses, Assemblies & Convention: The State Party works with County Parties to hold our caucuses, assemblies and conventions which serve to: elect precinct leaders, elect delegates, and place candidates on the ballot for all levels of office. (Colorado now uses a public primary on to elect Presidential Candidates - which will be held on Super Tuesday March 3, 2020.)
Respecting Neutrality in Primaries: The State Party is strictly neutral in all primaries or campaigns with more than one Democrat in the race. This is both because our bylaws require and also because we believe it is necessary to have a level playing field among candidates and allow Colorado voters, volunteers and activists to choose their nominees.
National Convention: The State Party will be organizing the Delegation who is elected from Colorado to the National Convention in Milwaukee on July 12 - 16, 2020. There will be 80 Delegates (6 Alternates) and 2 Presidential Electors (2 Alternates) from Colorado elected from either Congressional Conventions or State Convention.
Public Education: We will be creating training materials for how and why people should participate in caucuses, county assemblies & conventions, state assembly & convention & national convention. (Convention is for Presidential, Assemblies are for Everything else). We have taken on citizen lobbying information so everyone knows how to impact their government (federal, state, local) on any issue they care about. We have also run down ticket education programs so more voters know more about what the down ticket offices do and why they matter.
Get Out the Vote: The State and County parties and candidates work to get out the vote. Colorado had the 2nd highest voter turnout in the nation in 2018 - and we are aiming for #1 next year!
Compliance & Legal: The State Party has in-house expertise on campaign finance and legal compliance. We take our responsibilities seriously to account for every dollar, follow every law, and help ensure others do the same.
Fundraising: The State Party is responsible for raising funds to implement the programs and projects we need to win elections. We need everyone who feels the morality of the moment we are in to what they can. (The Colorado Party does not accept corporate donations and we have some of the lowest campaign finance limits in the nation.) We have worked miracles with the funds we get. We are small compared to most states in terms of both staff and budget.
The State Party is the only entity that work directly with all candidates up and down the ballot, in all counties, with all volunteers, and voters, across all cycles. We could not do all we have done and deliver the wins in Colorado without the help of committed people who support the Colorado Democratic Party - whether $5 per month, $50 per month or $500 per month. (Our average donation is $54.78) Make history with us in 2020! If you are willing to help with fundraising, contact Raúl Guevara at
