URGENT: TONGASS RULING RESPONSE NEEDED NOW! The Department of Agriculture and Forest Service just issued their final environmental impact statement for the Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska, and it’s as bad as we feared. With just 30 days until the Trump administration's clearcut-for-cash plan goes into effect, we need your help NOW.

Dear Supporter,
Tomorrow is National Public Lands Day. But as we're celebrating our beautiful, restorative public lands, our work to protect places like the Tongass National Forest from chainsaws and logging roads has just kicked into overdrive.

We need your generous support right now to help protect the Tongass and all public lands.
The Forest Service and Department of Agriculture just issued its final environmental impact statement, which would eliminate Roadless Rule protections for over 9 million acres of the Tongass—an area bigger than Yellowstone, Glacier, and Grand Canyon National Parks combined, and the largest national forest in the country. Eliminating the rule would set a dangerous precedent for other forests across the country.
The American people want to save the Tongass. Ninety-six percent of the public comments sent to the Forest Service supported Roadless Rule protections for the world's largest intact temperate rainforest. We're on the right side of history and public opinion.
Here's the good news: pro-environment members of Congress are with us, too. Both the House and Senate have proposed legislation to make Alaska's Roadless Rule federal law, shutting down this attempt to sidestep protections. But we need your help to get these bills passed before the Trump administration's Big Timber and Oil friends roll into the Tongass to clearcut its towering western hemlocks and Sitka spruces. Please, help save the Tongass and find solutions to protect land across the country by becoming a monthly member today.

While the Tongass is revered for its pristine beauty—and for the habitat it provides for wolves, northern goshawks, and five different salmon species—it's also tremendously important to the fight against the climate crisis.
The Tongass, like all forests, is an essential carbon sink. Its old-growth trees and soil sequester amazing amounts of carbon dioxide—more, acre-for-acre, than the Amazon rainforest. Cutting it down would have a devastating impact on our ability to slow the climate crisis.
We're determined to preserve the Tongass as a powerful xxxxxx against the climate crisis, but we need your help.

We've been fighting to protect the Tongass for fifty years—and finally, permanent protections are within our grasp. Together we will stop the willful plunder of our last wild places, preserve irreplaceable cultural heritage, and decelerate the climate crisis that threatens our shared, bright future.
With determination—and deep appreciation,
