Dear John,
The New York Times is reporting that Donald Trump has selected his nominee to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It's Amy Coney Barrett, a far-right conservative who has spent her career working to dismantle RBG's legacy.
Justice Ginsburg's body has yet to be laid to rest, and funeral services have not been completed. Her dying words, dictated to her granddaughter, were, "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
But Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell couldn't wait. They only care about power, never people. We cannot let them get away with this.
The team here at Inequality Media Civic Action is working day and night to educate the public about the catastrophic consequences if this nomination goes through –a nd to remind them that voting has never been more critical, as Democrats would have the power to restructure the court if they take back control.

The hypocrisy of McConnell and his enablers is jaw-dropping. McConnell is the same man who held up President Obama's nominee, Merrick Garland, for 293 days, claiming "the American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president."
But while the hypocrisy is outrageous, the consequences of confirming Barrett would be devastating for the American people.
One of the first cases Judge Barrett would get to decide on, if confirmed, is whether to throw out the Affordable Care Act, which would strip health insurance from tens of millions of Americans in the middle of the pandemic. The Supreme Court came within one vote of tossing out Obamacare in 2012, and if she's confirmed, Obamacare is as good as gone.
Judge Barrett has referred to abortion as "always immoral" and has ruled twice in favor of upholding restrictions to abortion access. She'll more than likely lock in a majority to overturn Roe v. Wade . She'll likely gut what's left of our campaign finance laws and voting rights protections. Environmental protections, immigrant rights, and the limits on corporate power would all disappear under the 6–3 right-wing supermajority that would result from this confirmation.
Judge Barrett is 48 years old. She could conceivably be an extremist voice on the Court for three decades or more.
And of course, with Donald Trump refusing to guarantee a peaceful transfer of power if he's defeated, it will be up to the Supreme Court to defend our democracy in the looming constitutional crisis following a likely Trump defeat.
John , I was crushed and heartbroken by the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a true champion of equality and justice for all. But now we must honor her life and legacy by fighting against this grotesque power grab.
