At the end of a long, distressing week that’s shown us once again how deeply rooted structural, violent white supremacy is in the so-called justice and law enforcement systems in this country, I wanted to share an opportunity for you to show up and be on the record that you detest and reject the atrocities being committed in your name.

Last week, we heard horrifying reports about forced hysterectomies performed on immigrants detained by ICE without their consent. On Wednesday, the police officers who shot and killed Breonna Taylor were not indicted by the grand jury.

These atrocities do not occur in a vacuum. They are the direct result of a system that doesn’t value the lives and dignity of BIPOC individuals. And they weigh heavily on our hearts, as they should.

It’s at these difficult times that being in community is most needed. That’s why we wanted to extend an invitation to you to join an in-person or virtual vigil organized by our friends in the Families Belong Together coalition in solidarity with ICE detainees [[link removed]] — because every body deserves freedom from reproductive violence and all other forms of violence. Together as a community, we will make that a reality.

We must abolish ICE. We must divest from police and invest in communities. But giving ourselves time to grieve, to honor and acknowledge those who have been harmed, and to make space for our emotions are a prerequisite to being able to sustain our activism.
