1. WE'RE TRACKING CHANGES TO ELECTION PROCEDURES AHEAD OF THE GENERAL ELECTION

Thirty-eight states have made changes to their general election procedures. This includes changes to ballot return deadlines, processes for requesting or receiving absentee or mail-in ballots, and ways voters can correct errors in their returned ballot (known as ballot curing). ** 2. NEARLY THREE IN FOUR OF THIS YEAR'S FEDERAL RACES WILL NOT BE COMPETITIVE, ELECTION FORECASTERS SAY

A Ballotpedia review of election forecasts found that 137 of the federal elections taking place this year (26.3%) are predicted to be competitive, with the remaining 384 all but certain to be won by one of the two major parties.

** 3. ONE WEEK OUT FROM THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

Tuesday marked one week until the first presidential debate between Donald Trump (R) and Joe Biden (D). The Sept. 29 debate will be 90 minutes long with no commercial breaks. It will be divided into 15-minute segments on six different topics.

** 4. LOOKING AT WITNESS SIGNATURE AND NOTARY REQUIREMENTS FOR ABSENTEE AND MAIL-IN BALLOTS

In this year's general election, all but seven states (and three territories) allow any voter to vote by mail. Twelve states generally require voters who cast their ballots by mail to obtain the signature of a witness or notary in order for their vote to be counted. This year, five of those states have suspended, reduced, or otherwise modified their witness or notary requirements.
