News From The Week Of September 21 – September 25, 2020

Friend,

So many of us, myself included, are still very much mourning Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her prominent voice on issues of religious freedom and church-state separation and on behalf of those who are more vulnerable in our society kept our rights more secure during her twenty-seven years on the bench.

President Trump is expected to announce his nominee to succeed Justice Ginsburg as soon as tomorrow. Another Trump appointee to the Supreme Court would undoubtedly embolden his administration’s attempts to redefine religious freedom as a sword to harm others rather than as a shield to protect us.

Our team is prepared to do everything we can to ensure that church-state separation is a central focus in the fight to come. No nominee to the highest court in the land should be anything less than a stalwart supporter of that founding principle.

Justice Ginsburg’s death came just days after the conclusion of our first-ever National Advocacy Summit – during which our many dedicated speakers and guests explained all the ways in which religious freedom is at risk. I’m happy to share that every workshop and live session from the Summit is now available for viewing online for free.

And please, feel free to share both of these resources with your friends and family!

It’s never been more important for us to grow the movement to defend church-state separation. If all of us share these expert perspectives and tools with our communities, it will multiply our reach. At this crucial moment, that’s precisely what we need. I am so grateful for your partnership – and even more so during such difficult times.

With hope and determination,

Rachel K. Laser
