John,
Last July, William Barr came before the Judiciary Committee to answer our questions. But instead of giving testimony, he put on a show for Donald Trump.
I was determined to not let him get away with it, so I held his feet to the fire and demanded answers to our committee’s pressing questions.
And when he tried to dodge or obstruct, I dared to stand up to him. I told him I “reclaimed my time” so I could refocus the discussion away from his Trump-approved talking points.
Well, John, now the Justice Department (DOJ) is saying that because I was too mean to Attorney General William Barr, senior officials won’t testify before the House.
The Judiciary Committee has requested a number of senior DOJ officials to testify on important matters — but in a lengthy, three-page letter, the Assistant Attorney General said that because I was too mean to William Barr, they are refusing to appear.
Let me be clear, John: I will never be afraid of speaking truth to power. Attorney General William Barr has been abusing his power to serve the personal interests of Donald Trump, and if he refuses to testify in good faith, I will call him out.
The fact that that’s led to senior officials in the Justice Department refusing to testify is more evidence of their kowtowing to President Trump’s crooked agenda.
John, if you want me to stay in Congress to keep holding corruption accountable, will you make a donation to my re-election campaign right now? GOP bigwigs aren’t happy with me standing up to William Barr, and they’d love to see me never return to the halls of Congress. That’s why I’m counting on you!
Thank you,
Hank
