John,
I'm proud to show support for candidates running for Congress who are also ready to fight for progressive policies in Washington. That's why, today, I'm endorsing five folks running for Congress: Julie Oliver (TX-25), Dana Balter (NY-24), Mike Siegel (TX-10), Kara Eastman (NE-02), and Beth Doglio (WA-10).
Julie Oliver is running for Congress in Texas' 25th District, a district heavily gerrymandered to favor Republicans where she's now within striking distance against the Trump Republican incumbent Roger Williams, one of the wealthiest members of Congress. As a healthcare finance expert — and someone who had to navigate Medicaid as a young adult — she knows firsthand how broken our system is.
Julie doesn't take a dime of PAC money. She is a champion for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and will fight for working-class people — unlike her opponent, who took PPP loans for his car dealership and has a personal fortune in the tens of millions.
Dana Balter is running for Congress in New York's 24th District. She's a fellow educator who is a fierce advocate for disability services, and is running on a strong progressive platform to achieve Medicare for All, build an economy that works for everyone, and get big money out of politics.
Dana is up against Trump Republican incumbent John Katko, who has an A- rating from the NRA and said he'd overturn Roe v. Wade. NY-24 is currently a "Tossup" district, and Rep. Katko is one of the most vulnerable Republicans in Congress. This race is being polled as a dead heat, with Dana leading by just 2 points.
Mike Siegel is running for Congress in Texas' 10th District to put an end to special treatment to Big Money interests. As Austin's Assistant City Attorney, Mike worked to pass one of the first paid sick leave ordinances in Texas and helped lead the legal fight against Texas Senate Bill 4, a 2017 anti-immigrant law.
In Congress, Mike will focus on making healthcare, good jobs, and clean air and water a reality for everyone. His campaign is funded by the grassroots, and he refuses contributions from pharmaceutical companies and corporate PACs.
Kara Eastman is running for Congress in Nebraska's 2nd District. Kara is a social worker, small business owner, and the founder of Nebraska's premiere children's environmental health agency, where she raised over $13 million to keep her community safe from lead poisoning, asthma, and other debilitating conditions.
Kara is running for the second time after an extremely narrow 1.9% loss in 2018 against Trump Republican Don Bacon. Right now, she's tied in the polls with him, and polling shows NE-02 leading for Biden — making this a key pickup opportunity for the progressive movement.
Beth Doglio is running for Congress in Washington's 10th District. She is a community organizer, climate activist, and current State Representative who understands that we can't accept the status quo. She's an expert and a leader in efforts to defeat climate change and develop a clean energy economy.
In Congress, Beth will fight for affordable housing, Medicare for All, paid family leave, and aggressive action to combat climate change with a Green New Deal and beyond.
Just like these candidates, John, I'm hoping to join Congress in January and fight for the bold, progressive change I know we deserve. I need these folks with me in Washington so we can challenge the political establishment and shake up the status quo.
From Nebraska to the Bronx, the progressive movement is growing across the country — and we need more of us in Congress. But first, we need to win our races in the November elections. That's why I'm asking you directly:
Thank you,
Jamaal Bowman
