Dear John,
In an infuriating move, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced within hours of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing that the Senate will vote as soon as possible to fill her seat on the Supreme Court.
Even as the total COVID-19 death toll in the United States just topped 200,000, Senator McConnell’s priority is rushing through a nominee before the electorate can have their say in November.
Like I said, infuriating. We’re going to fight this every step of the way, John. The Law Center has been working around the clock since the news broke. But we need your help. That’s why I’m asking you to make a contribution today to help us hold the line. But please hurry—President Trump is expected to announce his nominee tomorrow. Donate now>>
As an organization of lawyers, the Law Center knows firsthand the profound effect judicial appointments can have on all of our rights, but especially for women of color and LGBTQ people. Everything is at stake right now—the future of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and its protections for those with preexisting conditions, access to abortion, and rights for voters, DREAMers, and more.
We need you with us to block McConnell and Trump’s attempt to rush through a nominee. Right now, we’re working with lawmakers to make sure they understand the stakes and galvanizing activists to fight in any way we can. We will examine and expose the record of whoever the president nominates—although Trump has made clear that his nominee will be selected simply because he believes they’ll overturn Roe v. Wade and the ACA—and protest this sham confirmation process for what it is.
This is an all hands on deck moment. We don’t have a lot of time to stop a vote whose effects will reverberate for decades. Please make a donation today to fight back.
We will never stop fighting to fulfill the charge Justice Bader Ginsburg gave us—not to fill the vacancy she left on the Supreme Court until the inauguration—and to protect her legacy.
Thank you for being with us, today and every day.
Sincerely,
Anna Chu
