If Trump picks Judge Barbara Lagoa to fill Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat, the president could lock down a 6-3 conservative majority -- and the swing state of Florida -- in one fell swoop.
The New York Times has reported that “Democrats have been struggling to match Hillary Clinton’s popularity among Hispanics in Miami-Dade County, where the election could be won or lost.” Lagoa, who was born in Miami to Cuban immigrants, could help the president sweep the state -- and the election.
What’s more, Lagoa is a strict conservative. She’s previously ruled against voting rights, against minimum wage increases, and has agreed with Trump’s philosophy on the role the judicial branch should play in our democracy -- namely, that federal judges should defer to the executive branch.
If Lagoa gets on the Court, it could give Trump the election -- and free rein to do whatever he wants for the next four years.
