Friends -- The other day, I found out my GOP opponent tried to attack me for not doing anything for NYCHA.

Well, he needs to do his research — because my record on fighting for NYCHA residents spans my entire career. From fighting for and winning fairer contracts in my City Council days to delivering billions of dollars to our city and district’s public housing, I’ve been in this fight for years - and am getting more done now than ever before.

Alongside our NY-12 community, I’ve fought for:

Creating new parks and preserve public spaces, from introducing the RECIPE Act to help fund pocket parks to helping Queensbridge residents get proof of who owned the land where they wanted to start a community garden
Advocating for tenant repairs alongside residents and community activists
Helping expand access to banking services for residents by supporting community banking initiatives
Pushing for pilot programs to decentralize repairs back to individual developments, like we did in my City Council days - when repairs actually got made
Defending the rights of mixed-status families to stay in NYCHA housing
Working to hold NYCHA accountable for every dollar spent
Opposed NYCHA privatization and helped save well-loved community spaces
Co-sponsored the Green New Deal for Public Housing to update our existing public housing stock with green technology, and center housing justice
And so much more
It’s just insulting that my GOP opponent thinks the residents of NY-12, especially those who live in NYCHA, would fall for such a baseless attack.

But that’s the kind of tactic we’ve come to expect from the GOP, whose members in Congress have opposed countless measures to maintain, improve and fully fund our public housing.

EVERYONE has a right to a safe place they can call home, and I will keep fighting until that right is realized for all.
