Friend --
Earlier this week, in Vermont, delivery of ballots began all across the state. In fact, every registered Vermont voter will receive their ballot in the mail sometime between September 21 and October 1.
Vermont is fortunate to have a secretary of state who is committed to voting rights, making it easy, accessible, and safe for Vermonters to cast their ballots. We are supported by a strong Postal Service that takes seriously its responsibility to safely and timely deliver each ballot. The president and I don't have much in common, but this fall, we are BOTH voting by mail.
Even if you do not live and vote in my home state, this should matter to you. Here's why: Every state should have the resources and opportunity to do vote-by-mail. Our democracy rests on the belief that any registered voter who wants to vote can and should.
The good news is that it's absolutely achievable through legislation. We need Congress to act right away to make it happen by:
- Providing substantial funding to both state and local governments and the United States Postal Service.
- Restoring the Voting Rights Act by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
To voice your support for EVERY state having access to safe, secure, and accessible voting, add your name here to demand Congress provide funding for state and local governments and the USPS and pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
Thank you for supporting our democracy and voting rights for all.
Sincerely,
Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator
