Friends -
My name is Oresa, and I am a survivor of gun violence.
In 2007, Congress designated September 25th as the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims. This day honors the life of our loved ones whose lives were taken and is observed across the nation.
Today is a day I wish didn’t have to exist.
As a surviving victim, most of our days are racked with ongoing thoughts of our loved one's who didn’t survive—their last minutes, actions, or thoughts.
Having a day where our loved one's life is recognized is beneficial to our growth; it is a part of our grieving system that wants the world to know of the pain that we experience.
I founded Not Another Child after the loss of my son, and we choose to use this day to remember our loved ones not their death nor any other negative aspects of their life, but in their beauty. Through balloon releases, candlelight vigils, reading of names, and other creative ways, WE Remember Them.
We ask that you join us in remembering them as well. We will be broadcasting live on our Facebook at 4 and 6pm ET, and I am asking you to join me and my CJAF family on this special day.
Respectfully,
Oresa L Napper-Williams
