The Island Quarter is set for major regeneration works
*"A Message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:"*
Cllr David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council
Its great news that the first exciting part of the massive Island Quarter development, known by some as Boots Island will be getting underway soon, after planning approval was given for the Canal Turn restaurant building [ [link removed] ]. Not many places have the opportunity to create a new addition to their city like this, with 40 acres of land prime for redevelopment so close to the city centre. It will become a major asset to Nottingham, connecting nearby neighbourhoods to the city centre through an area long overdue for redevelopment. The plans to provide a mix of places to live, work and play will perfectly complement the other redevelopments across the Southside area. More encouraging news from the Southside is that retailers have signed up for almost all units [ [link removed] ] in the City Councils Broadmarsh car park, bus station and library development.

*New track and trace app is another weapon in our fight against Covid*
track and trace image
The Government has launched the NHS COVID19 app as another way of tackling coronavirus. It means that users can see if they are at risk from the virus at particular locations, and will enable them to be alerted if they have been in contact with someone who has contracted it. I would encourage everyone who can to download it to help keep themselves and others safe. It will also help you enter premises like pubs which now require customers to scan a QR code. The app has a number of tools, including contact tracing, local area alerts, and QR venue check-in and its worth pointing out that it does all this entirely anonymously. Any data shared within the app is held on your phone. The app will not hold any personal information about you, or track your location. It can be easily downloaded from the Google and Apple app stores. Find out more [link removed] [ [link removed] ]

*New rules around adult indoor sports*
Active Nottingham reopening safely image
New Government rules introduced yesterday mean that non-disabled people aged 18 and over will need to play in a group of no more than six people if theyre playing indoor team sports. Indoor sport and leisure facilities, including gyms and swimming pools, can continue to be used, following guidelines at venues. Outdoor sports and physical activity events can also continue, in line with latest guidance. See the full details here [ [link removed] ]
The latest Government guidance for physical activity hasnt required leisure centres to close, all our leisure centres including swimming pools are open. To find out more about our sport and leisure offer, the changes in place as a result of COIVD-19 and what you need to do keep yourself, other visitors and our staff safe, visit Active Nottingham [ [link removed] ]

*Recycling Plastics Right in Nottingham*
Many of us are trying to limit the amount of plastic we use but it is inevitable that our household waste will include this material. If we cannot reuse it then we will want to recycle it but not all plastics can be recycled.
As we come to the end of Recycle Week, in this video Cllr Sally Longford will tell you which plastics can and cannot be recycled and how to tell what type of plastic an item is.

Even the most committed of us can find plastic recycling a minefield but it is worth finding out what can and cannot be recycled. 23 per cent of recycling in Nottingham is unfortunately contaminated and this costs the council more than 300,000 a year. The wrong type of plastic ending up in residents recycling bins is one of the main issues.

Our free garden waste collection is suspended over the winter period and fortnightly collections will soon be ending on 30 September. However, there will be two additional collections - one in October and one in November - to help with the clearing up of leaf fall.
