  • New Report Details BlackRock's Washington Playbook: On Thursday, CfA released a new report, BlackRock’s Washington Playbook, which details how BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, implemented a strategy of lobbying, campaign contributions, and revolving door hires to fight off government regulation and establish itself as one of the most powerful financial companies in the world. (Press Release, Report )
  • CfA Renews Call for Michigan to Terminate Contract with Anti-Abortion Nonprofit, Real Alternatives: On Thursday, CfA renewed its request to Michigan government officials to investigate and terminate the state’s contract with Real Alternatives (RA), an anti-abortion nonprofit organization that receives state funding to run the Michigan Parenting and Pregnancy Support Program. (Press Release, Letter )

  • Digging into BlackRock's DC Footprint: Politico Morning Money highlighted CfA's new report documenting BlackRock's Washington influence operation. (Politico Morning Money9.5.19)
  • Deep Dive into Obria: Vox's Anna North wrote an explanatory piece about Obria, the anti-abortion nonprofit that's receiving money from the federal government. Vox highlighted CfA's research into Obria. (Vox8.29.19)
  • Mike Lee's Curious Antitrust Flip Flop: Michigan State University Law Professor Adam Candeub wrote in RealClearPolitics about U.S. Senator Mike Lee's transformation from Google critic to big tech defender. Prof. Candeub cited CfA's recent analysis of Mike Lee's ties to Google and other big tech companies. (RealClearPolitics, 8.29.19)

  • Google Promoting Climate Change Denialism: A Google news app is pushing articles from a climate denial blog. (Buzzfeed News, 9.5.19)
  • Big Tech's Lobbying: MapLight published an analysis showing Facebook, Amazon, Apple, and Alphabet have spent more than $330 million on federal lobbying since 2008. (MapLight, 9.5.19)
  • Revolving Door: Top Interior Department official Joe Balash, who oversaw oil and gas drilling on federal lands before resigning from Interior last week, confirmed his plans to join the Papau New Guinea-Based Oil Search, which is expanding its oil operations in Alaska. (The Washington Post, 9.4.19)
  • San Juan County, Utah spent $360K on high-priced lawyers: Taxpayers were on the hook for playing for first-class flying attorneys. (The Salt Lake Tribune, 9.2.19)
