Dear John,
Aubreanna was kneeling on the ground in front of Seattle police when she was suddenly struck in the chest with a flash grenade. Earlier that evening, she and her friends had been distributing food to Black Lives Matter protesters.
That’s right. Police deployed an explosive, deafening device directly at her that can cause serious injury... simply because Aubreanna was attending a protest.
Are you horrified and disgusted by the onslaught of militarized police tactics threatening the safety of peaceful protesters like Aubreanna? Act Now: If we receive 500 donations by midnight tonight, all gifts will be tripled for THREE TIMES the impact in our fight back.
You have taken action with Amnesty. Thank you! Will you take this important step now? Make a donation — whatever you can chip in — and unlock this TRIPLE MATCH >>>
An intensive care nurse volunteering as a street medic was close to 26-year old Aubreanna, could smell pepper spray, and heard what sounded like bombs exploding everywhere. When people rushed towards her aid station, someone screamed, “She’s been hit in the chest. She’s been hit in the chest.” Yet, even as the nurse scrambled to treat Aubreanna, police continued to fire tear gas, flash grenades, and rubber bullets at the aid station, which was marked with signs and first aid supplies.
“They were geared up to go to war,” Aubreanna told us of the Seattle police presence during the protests.
Militarized law enforcement officers and their unlawful actions are threatening cherished values — and we cannot sit back while peaceful protesters are targeted and attacked. We are calling on people of principle to rally together and fight back. John, your donation — no matter the size — could help triple your impact. But we need to hear from you by midnight tonight.
Our mission to safeguard human rights has never been more challenging — or more important. We’re working overtime to make sure that we’re exposing this crisis and mobilizing a groundswell of activists demanding an end to police brutality once and for all. But John, we need you — if we hear from 500 supporters by midnight tonight, we’ll unlock extra matching funds, and every dollar you give to Amnesty will triple in impact.
Aubreanna suffered multiple cardiac arrests from the flash grenade that night. She is recovering — but what happened to her is unconscionable. You and I know that peaceful protest is not a crime. Let’s raise our voices together right now to demand accountability from our law enforcement officials, and from our lawmakers at every level of government.
Let’s force our leaders to take action to stop unnecessary and excessive force. It stops right here, right now — but only if we rally a movement loud enough to demand change.
Thank you for being part of this important moment.
