They’re calling this the sleeper race of 2020: A poll released Monday shows Democrat Mike Espy just ONE POINT behind GOP Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith in Mississippi's Senate race—41% to 40%.

I’m proud to endorse Mike’s campaign, and hope you’ll take a few moments to learn more about Mike’s incredible story and why he’s going to win this race. 

I’m also going to ask you to donate to his campaign. Mike can only win this race if he has the resources to get his message out to voters. The polling numbers are there—it’s our job to get Mike across the finish line.

Mike was born and raised in Yazoo City, Mississippi, where he and his twin sister were among the first Black students to integrate his high school. They faced harassment every day—Mike remembers teachers spraying him with fire extinguishers. But he persisted.  

He went on to graduate from Howard University, and after law school was elected the first Black congressman from Mississippi since Reconstruction. Six years later, President-elect Bill Clinton tapped him to serve Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he took on special interests and worked to lift up American farmers.

Then he went home to Mississippi, where he practices law and serves on the board of a non-profit organization focused on improving lives in the rural Mid-South. 

Mike has dedicated his life to serving others—particularly the people all-too-often left behind in his state. His opponent? Not so much. Senator Cindy-Hyde Smith joked about attending a “public hanging” in a state where lynching was once a common occurance, and called voter suppression a good idea.  

Mike is running for Senate because he believes in Mississippi, and believes that Cindy Hyde-Smith is hurting his state.  

Listen: With Donald Trump refusing to commit to a peaceful transfer of power, we need a mandate. We need sweeping victories across states—red and blue—that show just how serious we are about taking our country back.
