Help the ACLU ramp up efforts in all 50 states.

I'm sure you – like many people – watched or read about the debacle that was the primary election here in Georgia a few months ago.

On primary day, Georgia voters experienced long lines, trouble with the computers, and various other problems with in-person voting.

And a major reason for this hardship was that many of our counties simply failed to have enough poll workers to run an effective election.

Thankfully, because of committed ACLU supporters like you, the ACLU of Georgia is ready to address this challenge as we head into the final weeks of the election season.

In a moment, I'll let you know about a special initiative we're running, but I want to reiterate something up front: This work will not be as successful without your continued engagement and support. And especially given recent events – including President Trump's refusal to commit on a peaceful transfer of power should he lose the election – your dedication could not be more important.

That's why I'm hoping the ACLU can count on you supporting our crucial efforts to protect voting rights and ensure that our teams on the ground have the resources necessary to meet the specific challenges in their states.

Here in Georgia, the ACLU is leading the charge in making sure that no one has to deal with confusion and dysfunction again on Election Day.

We recently launched our Poll Worker Recruitment Program to recruit younger Georgians who are at lower risk of COVID-19 complications, lawyers committed to understanding the ins and outs of election law, and tech-savvy individuals who can help keep the electronic voter machines up and running.

But what's happening in Georgia is just one way the ACLU is engaging in the states to push voters to cast their ballots and to encourage civic-minded individuals to get involved in protecting the votes of their neighbors.

For example, in Florida, we're pushing local election officials to ensure equity and accessibility in voting – including increasing early voting polling locations and early voting time.

And the ACLU of Texas is recruiting volunteer poll watchers in the state to monitor in-person polling locations for irregularities, late openings, lack of staff, or voter intimidation tactics.

None of this work is easy, but all of it is necessary to ensure that voters have safe, equal access to the ballot in the weeks ahead.
