PFAW Member, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a titan, using her 27-year tenure on the Supreme Court to fight for the rights of all people, particularly on behalf of those whose rights were most often neglected or repressed. Although we still grieve her passing, we are focused on preventing the heinous dishonoring of her legacy and her memory now being pressed by Donald Trump and Senate Republicans. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell stated less than an hour after Justice Ginsburg’s death that he would rush a vote on Trump’s nominee to replace her seat on the bench. Shortly after, Trump announced that he would name his pick on Saturday, September 26 at 5 PM ET. The Republicans are moving fast to steal Justice Ginsburg’s seat and we won’t let them get away with it. In 2016, McConnell and his Republican allies refused to confirm President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee eight months before election day. But now that they have the opportunity to install an anti-health care justice on the bench, they’re determined to force this nomination through just over a month before election day. In fact, early voting was already ongoing in many states before Justice Ginsburg passed. The Republicans aren’t playing fair, but when it comes to serving the special interests that are determined to undermine our health care system, McConnell doesn’t care. It’s become common knowledge that Republicans have no interest in being fair in any of their political dealings, but now they’re playing with our lives: We cannot let Senate Republicans get away with this outrageous attack on our health care in the middle of a pandemic. We need your help to tell the Senate that their unfairness and callousness is unacceptable. We will honor Justice Ginsburg’s legacy – and we’ll hold accountable any Republicans who refuse. Thank you for all that you do! In unity, – Sarah, Digital Campaigns Associate
