As you may recall, this spring IJ launched a cutting-edge new case challenging Chicago’s vehicle impound racket. The city’s scheme traps even innocent owners in a bureaucratic maze, accruing thousands of dollars in fines and storage fees as they struggle to get their vehicles back. And after we filed the case, we were flooded with calls from victims sharing how their cars were unconstitutionally seized and their lives upended—many of them, like our clients, did nothing wrong.

As we push the litigation forward, we’re keeping a relentless drumbeat of pressure on the city. The latest example of this is a new piece in Car and Driver magazine, which has over one million subscribers. The article drives home the scale and complexity of Chicago’s impound program, which it says “exists in an alternate universe outside the criminal-justice realm.”

IJ won’t rest until we dismantle this radical system once and for all. Please join our fight by donating online today to spur the fundamental change that Chicagoans so desperately need—and to shine a bright light on how cities across the country are increasingly treating their citizens like ATMs.

Thank you for your consideration,
Scott
