Hey John,

As you know, we've been driving all over the district to meet voters and hear about their hopes and priorities for the future. And it's paying off.

According to a new Des Moines Register poll, we're neck and neck with our opponent.

But this is more important than polls. We're getting out to every single town in Iowa's 4th District and meeting with folks across the political spectrum because I want to serve everyone -- not just those who will vote for me on Election Day, not just folks who agree with me, but everyone. I've said this before, but I really mean it: This job isn't about me -- it's about service.

What I've learned so far has been invaluable. Hearing different experiences and picking up stories along the campaign trail will make me a better representative in Congress and make me more equipped to get right to work on Day 1 because I'll know what's happening on the ground.

Let me show you what I mean:

I stopped by the Belmond Historical Museum and got a chance to hear stories and see some pictures of a nasty tornado in 1996 from Mark. The museum's newspaper archive actually dates back to 1876, which I love because I was a history major in college. A lot of folks can forget how important history is to today's problems -- Belmond helped remind me.

I got a chance to meet some real heroes too, people who should make each and every Iowan very proud. Here I am with Hannah and Carrie, who are volunteers at the First Lutheran Food Pantry in Clarion. They serve our communities by providing them with vital aid like food and diapers -- no questions asked.

Here I am with some folks in Moorhead (pop. 204). We had a great conversation about the importance of enforcing our antitrust laws in agriculture and how essential the USPS is to small, rural towns. We need leaders who will protect this vital service and bring the post office back to Moorhead!

These pictures are a small testament to our strength as a community. That strength comes from our people and the stories of hardship and perseverance I've learned a lot from. As I go town to town, I've come to understand that Americans from all walks of life want to be treated with respect -- they need to be heard by their government and to be given a fair shake.

When I say it's been invaluable to me, I mean that without these experiences, I wouldn't be the best representative I could be. You've all helped me grow as a leader by sharing your stories and hopes with me -- and I'll carry them with me through the halls of Congress.

We're back home right now, but we'll be heading back out again later this week to keep meeting all of our neighbors. If you can chip in $5 to help keep the gas tank full, we'd really appreciate the support.

Oh wait -- here's one more picture of me meeting Moose in Bode. He was a real sweetheart, and I wanted to give him a shoutout for being such a good boy.

Thanks for letting me steal some of your time.

Standing Tall for All,

J.D.
