Folks, the Census is one of the most critical measures for how much federal funding our state receives -- each person counted in Nevada is estimated to count for $20,000 in federal funding over a decade.
But this year it has faced nearly impossible barriers. Trump has attempted to include politicized citizenship questions on the form, underfund the count, and he even cut the count short by thirty days. On top of everything -- the COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult for Census canvassers to reach households.
Trump’s attempts to undermine the count will have devastating effects on communities that are often underrepresented in counts already, such as those in rural communities or in communities of color.
But one by one, Nevadans are fighting to overcome the Trump Administration’s obstacles:
We’re topping our 2010 response rate during a pandemic.
