Dear John,
The Trump administration's ongoing assault on Iranian students has reached a new low. Today, the DHS announced restrictions that would limit the timeframe for international students studying in the United States.
Under the proposed restrictions, students from countries designated a "state sponsor of terror" —including Iran— would be limited to two-year visas, effectively preventing Iranians from completing four-year degrees or PhD programs in the U.S. The restrictions apply not just to those living in Iran, but to anyone holding Iranian citizenship, even if only passed through by the father to an individual who may never have even set foot in the country.
Many Iranians have ended up in the United States through student visas-- my parents included. 30 years ago, had my parents been denied the chance to immigrate to the United States on student visas, they would have never met and I wouldn't exist today. And this story isn’t unique to me or to our community, but to immigrants all around the world who have chosen to make the United States home. This is why we must speak up and urge Congress to reject restrictions that further punish international students.
🚨 Take action! Urge your Congressperson to block restrictions on international students > [[link removed]]
We need to step up to protect not only our community, but also the fundamental values of our country’s immigration policies. So take action today [[link removed]] and help block the Trump administration from slamming university doors to some of the world's brightest minds.
In Solidarity,
