 Dear Supporter, I’m writing with an important request: can you please send a thank you note to all six Members of Congress who spoke on our Congressional plenary last Tuesday? We’re thrilled with the incredible success of our virtual Palestine Advocacy Days last week. More than 800 people from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds from 42 states held more than 150 congressional meetings, including dozens with members of Congress themselves, to advocate for Palestinian rights. And we’ve already had a tangible impact: more Members of Congress will be sponsoring important legislation supporting Palestinian rights! During our plenary session, six members of Congress--Reps. Betty McCollum, Rashida Tlaib, Donald Payne, Jr., Judy Chu, Debbie Dingell, and André Carson--delivered powerful remarks. This in itself is a victory: just a few years ago, not many elected officials were willing to say anything publicly about Palestinian rights. In fact, close to none. But today, our movement wields tangible political power: six members of Congress spoke for Palestinian rights.
While we are working tirelessly to advocate for Palestinian rights, we know that anti-Palestinian forces are hard at work, too. We had racist anti-Palestinian infiltrators disrupt some of our congressional meetings and we can be sure that the six members of Congress who spoke at our event are facing backlash. We need them to know that people across the country have their backs: Send a message to Reps. McCollum, Dingell, Chu, Payne, Carson, and Tlaib to thank them for taking a stand for Palestinian rights. Raed Jarrar Advocacy Director PS: The theme of our advocacy days, racial justice from the US to Palestine, is more relevant than ever, especially with the upsetting news yesterday in the case of Breonna Taylor, a Black woman killed by police in Kentucky. All six of our speakers co-sponsored and voted to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020 in the House. We included a reference to that bill our thank you note as well.
