Refugees are arriving again!

September 2020

A warm welcome to two of our newest refugee families! Originally from Iraq, they have arrived from Lebanon and are relieved to be safely in the U.S., especially after having experienced the devastation of the recent explosion in Beirut.
Refugees Admitted Again

After a 5-month pause, the U.S. government has begun admitting refugees again. Through September 21, the U.S. has admitted 10,233 refugees this fiscal year -- just 57% of the 18,000 refugees projected for the year, which ends on September 30.

While we wish more refugees had been admitted this year, USCRI's field offices are thrilled to once again be welcoming families to their new homes, teaching them about life in the U.S., and introducing them to their new communities.

What happens to an American city when its steady stream of refugees suddenly drops?

Erie, PA is a fascinating case study in a recent article by WITF ([link removed]) . The slowdown in refugees had serious consequences for employers, landlords, businesses, and the economic health of the city.
A Tough Few Years

From the Muslim Ban to the Remain in Mexico policy to hundreds of other new rules, it's been a difficult few years for refugees and immigrants. Click here for an easy-to-read infographic ([link removed]) and learn more.
