NCEW is proud to welcome VW as a sponsor of the Policy Makers Symposium. We’re excited to share their news today!

Yesterday, Volkswagen unveiled its newest all-electric vehicle, the ID.4! The ID.4, a compact SUV, is Volkswagen’s first long-range electric vehicle with an estimated 250 miles of range. It’s available for reservations now online and will be launched in all 50 states starting in early 2021. With a starting MSRP of $39,995 before any federal or state tax credits, this EV is packaged for the heart of the U.S. market, truly for the millions - not just the millionaires.

The ID.4 exemplifies a shift at Volkswagen – one towards an environmentally responsible future. We’ve committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2050 and have committed to spend over $30 billion on electric vehicle technology globally in pursuit of that goal. To encourage EV adoption, our $2 billion investment into EV infrastructure through our subsidiary Electrify America will make EV owners more confident that they can find charging whenever they need it. These investments will pave the way towards a greener, more responsible future.

Perhaps most exciting, Volkswagen will localize production of the ID.4 to our Chattanooga, Tennessee plant in 2022 – bringing thousands of new jobs and enhanced career opportunities to America. Our workforce development programs engage middle school students all the way through doctoral candidates to ready a workforce for our significant investments in advanced manufacturing.

Yesterday, in recognition of our Chattanooga-based workforce development programs, the White House awarded Volkswagen a Presidential Award for our Pledge to America’s Workers where we committed to provide 15,000 enhanced career opportunities. Our workforce is ready and expanding to meet the needs of a greener future here in America!
