Friend — this is big — we've learned we have a very real shot at picking up an environmental Senate seat — but we have to move quickly.
In Iowa, Senator Joni Ernst is hypocritically backing a vote to replace Justice Ginsburg before the election, after previously stating that SCOTUS confirmations shouldn't happen in a presidential election year.
Ernst already has made headlines for being a COVID-19 denier — she repeated a QAnon conspiracy theory from Trump that coronavirus deaths are being overcounted. She also has a record of denying climate change — and has an abysmal 3% lifetime score in LCV's
National Environmental Scorecard. We've just named her to LCV Victory Fund's 2020 Dirty Dozen list.
Here's the situation: Ernst's race is the closest Senate race in this cycle. Polls have consistently put the race within the margin of error — and
if we win this seat, it could decide if we have an environmental majority or not.
Vote-by-mail plans in Iowa are underfunded right now, and we've just laid out a plan to go big there. The challenge — shifting resources into Iowa to defeat Joni Ernst would mean scaling back efforts to beat Susan Collins in Maine or Thom Tillis in North Carolina — races that are also super close, where the environmental movement could decide the outcome.
Bottom line — we need your help. If we can raise $100,000 by the end of the month, we can scale up voter turnout operations in all three states. If everyone reading this right now pitched in — even $3 — we'd blow through that goal in minutes. Every contribution is being triple matched right now »
In Maine, we have a real shot at defeating Susan Collins — we have to keep hammering on her voting record (she's backed Trump's agenda on virtually every major vote).
In North Carolina, Senator Tillis has embraced climate change denial even after his own state has been hit by devastating hurricanes in recent years — and he's accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions from corporate polluters.
We can't afford to lose any of these races. This would haunt us — what if we make the wrong call and give up on a race we could have otherwise won? And what if that costs us an environmental majority in the Senate?
One seat could make the difference on whether or not we can finally get historic climate change legislation turned into law.
So — Joni Ernst, Susan Collins, Thom Tillis — all of them need to go. The country is burning right now. Remove Trump and his enablers, and we're in a real position to advance federal policies that put people most impacted by pollution and climate change — especially communities of color, Indigenous communities, and low-wealth communities — at the center of solutions, and leave a livable planet for future generations.
I hope you'll help, if you can — when everyone pitches in, even $3 makes a big difference. Please, donate to LCV Victory Fund today. Your contribution will be tripled »
We can't thank you enough for fighting alongside us during this election. This is our chance — a real chance — at finally getting our country on track.
We can do this, friend — we just have to do it together.
